A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step One thousand, one hundred and thirty Buddhist monks broke the record for the Longest Journey walking on flower petals on the fourth Dhammachai Dhutanga pilgrimage, having travelled an incredible 485 km (301.36 miles) on foot across Thailand. (2015) One year , for the annual color show at Keizer Arts in Keizer, Oregon, the color Orange was chosen. I went through several ideas about what I might do for this show. Truth be told, I am not particularly crazy about the color Orange. So I did a little research, and discovered the pilgrimage of the Buddhist monks across Thailand. I set upon my own journey , creating a collage, that ended up winning Best of Show that year. (2021) Painstakingly cutting out dozens of flowers and petals for the "flower petal road" and then creating the robe and feet out of maps using as much of Thailand as possible, along with surrounding Asian countries. Giving it all an orange hue with colored pencils and colored inks. Below are step by step images of the Creation of this piece, which was purchased and now lives in a private collection.
