Here are a few photos of step by steps.
First on left is beginning, last on right is finished piece.
It takes me a while to post on my web site, since the process is more complicated than just posting on Facebook.
So, if you have Facebook and are interested in more current postings and updates....
I am Elsewise Art.  Follow me.

Meow Dyer Cat Cafe- Finally Finished!

Lots of sketches and ideas about what the mural was gonna be....
As with all my Art, it took me in the direction it wanted to go.
I was wise in not pushing myself to paint until my muscles screamed.
I took it slow, couple hours a day, spread out over time.

OK. I see a couple more teeny tiny bits I need to fix on Moll
Picture
Just a few adjustments and Moll is complete.Something is amiss with her legs and feet. Think I'll change the color of her dress
Picture
Moll is mostly done. Trees and leaves and ground leaves and cats are complete.
Picture
White mass filled in for Moll and cats.

First day, laid down background
Picture
laid in some green... don't like it
Picture
background trees. intention is for more larger foreground trees, but I end up eliminating them.
Picture
leaves on the trees. covered up the green with more fallen leaves.
Picture
since no foreground trees, there's too much blue so added some hanging tee shirts of famous cats
Picture
pine trees, cats, filled in tees, loosely outlined the leaves
Picture
a cardinal sits atop the clothesline: Felix the Cat, Bill the Cat, Garfield and a Meow Dyer Cat Cafe tee

Another cardinal atop Cat in the Hat, Cheshire Cat, Anime Cat, Hello Kitty

Fire Escape

10/17/2024

I received the Wood Panel/Canvas several years ago.
I was gifted the fire escape a few years ago.
I have been saving figures for over a decade.
I found the windows last year.
I cut the bricks from a linoleum block I found at an estate sale years ago but never did anything with it.
I finally started the process and began making it months ago, and finished a week ago.
Wow.
This piece was a long time in the making. But! Worth it.
I need to fix the 2nd story balcony though... it's supposed to be directly under and above the other two.

Single Step

A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step

One thousand, one hundred and thirty Buddhist monks broke the record for the Longest Journey walking on flower petals on the fourth Dhammachai Dhutanga pilgrimage, having travelled an incredible 485 km (301.36 miles) on foot across Thailand. (2015)
One year , for the annual color show at Keizer Arts in Keizer, Oregon, the color Orange was chosen.
I went through several ideas about what I might do for this show.
Truth be told,  I am not particularly crazy about the color Orange.
So I did a little research, and discovered the pilgrimage of the Buddhist monks across Thailand.
I set upon my own journey , creating a collage, that ended up winning Best of Show that year. (2021)
Painstakingly cutting out dozens of flowers and petals for the "flower petal road" and then creating the robe and feet out of maps using as much of Thailand as possible, along with surrounding Asian countries. Giving it all an orange hue with colored pencils and colored inks.

Below are step by step images of the Creation of this piece, which was purchased and now lives in  a private collection.

Historic Sotterley

7/5/2024

In January I was approached to visit Historic Sotterley and discuss a possible selection of classes to be given once a month, May to October. I saw the former plantation for the first time, and learned a little of what was being asked regarding the classes.
After more visits, emails and discussions with St. Mary's County Arts Council, who had referred me and would be giving a grant for the classes, and Historic Sotterley, who would be offering the classes on their site- I came up with 6 creative classes that incorporated something from the site or the sites history.
Due to difficult circumstances May's class was pushed to June- so there were two classes, and then July and August have been bumped to September and October, thereby having two per  month as well.

ANY wwaaayyyyyy......

The first class we walked through the gorgeous gardens, looked at all the flowers and butterflies, returned to the barn and painted our favourites using watercolor pencils.
The second class we walked about a bit, collecting 3d objects (we were hoping for some feather gathering but not many were found) then returned to the barn to create unique-to-each-person pop up cards.

The Elsewise Art studio and classroom... coming together .
Been in place for month and a half. Still some tweaking to do.
Still some furniture and supplies to bring in and sort and art to put up.
But it's looking good.
It's been a journey to get here.

This is the second round , as I sold 4 robots. The birds here have replaced the robots that sold.
Finally showing again...
A piece here and there at St. Mary's County Arts Council.
Couple pieces at February Invitational at North End Gallery.
May 2023... A solo show at Port of Leonardtown Winery, and 3 pieces at the Cinco de Mayo show at St. Mary's.
I really like working in Posca Pen and shall continue to do so, as well as collage, colored pencil.
